LIFT University is an innovative program offering women college students in a business major the opportunity to participate in the annual Ladenburg Institute of Women & Finance Symposium. The inaugural program launched in October with 10 participants. Each student was paired with an experienced advisor who acted as a guide, answering questions and making introductions. The students participated in an exclusive pre-conference educational workshop which included a professional panel and a financial services fundamentals lecture. Selected participants were included in all advisor meetings, meals and events for additional education and networking opportunities.
The young women came from four universities including Southern Methodist University, Texas Woman’s University, University of Central Missouri and the University of Georgia, and were selected based on strong GPAs, engagement in their school and community, interest in the financial services industry, and articulate responses to several essay questions. Each shared positive feedback about the experience and were happy to learn the role of financial advisor is primarily relationship driven as opposed to being steeped in math. These sharp, driven young women will be excellent contributors to our industry in just a few short years. The future looks bright!
